Basant Alert: Bikes Must Have Safety Rods or Avoid Roads - Carr.pk

Authorities are enforcing strict kite-flying laws to protect riders from deadly string accidents during the upcoming Basant celebrations.

According to the reports, Lahore’s district administration has intensified enforcement of the Punjab Kite Flying Ordinance 2025 ahead of the revived Basant festival.

Commissioner Marryam Khan directed officials to implement “Mehfooz Basant” (Safe Basant) measures rigorously, banning motorcycles without protective safety rods during the event dates of February 6-8, 2026.

These vertical antennas deflect sharp, chemical-coated kite strings that have caused fatal throat injuries to riders in past celebrations.

Key directives include registering kite sellers, prohibiting metal or coated strings, and restricting flying hours. Motorcyclists face fines or impoundment if riding unequipped during the event.

Why This Matters for Motorcycle Riders

Riders face the highest risks during kite season. Enforcement measures aim to prevent past accidents from recurring, ensuring safer roads while preserving cultural traditions.

It is therefore crucial for motorbike riders to wear proper safety gear and install protective antennas on their bikes. If installation is not possible immediately, it is safer to opt for public transport during Basant days.
