Lahore Welcomes Basant Festival With New Motorbike Safety Measures
After 25 years, the Basant Festival is set to return to Lahore, with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announcing that it will be celebrated on February 6th, 7th, and 8th, 2026. The iconic festival, which marks the arrival of spring, will once again fill the skies of Lahore with vibrant kites.
In her recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Senior Minister Government of Punjab Marriyum Aurangzeb shared the exciting news, stating, “Basant belongs to the people, its success is our collective responsibility.” The Basant Ordinance 2025 will be fully enforced, with all kite strings and sellers registered and monitored through QR codes to ensure a safe and regulated festival.
As part of safety measures, the Punjab government has initiated a campaign to install antennas on all motorbikes across Lahore to prevent accidents during the festival. This is in response to the historical risks associated with kite strings and motorbikes.

Guidelines for celebrating Basant, focusing on safety, have already been issued to the public, emphasizing adherence to safety protocols during the event. Following the ordinance’s approval, some concerns were raised regarding road safety during Basant’s revival. These concerns were addressed with reassurances that strict security measures are in place to ensure the safety of both the roads and the local community.
With these precautions, the Basant Festival is set to return in a safe and vibrant manner, bringing Lahore’s cultural heritage back to life.
