Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mohammad Sohail Afridi has directed authorities to complete preparations for the BRT extension to Jamrud and Bara, ensuring safe, reliable, and affordable public transport for residents.

The project will connect Peshawar with Khyber district, easing daily commuting and reducing traffic congestion.

A dedicated ramp will be built at Karkhano station at a cost of Rs500 million. Twelve new 12-meter buses will start operations, while eight bus stops will be set up from Karkhano Market to Jamrud Bazaar and 10 stops along Pishtakhara to Bara Bazaar.

The BRT system currently runs 18 routes over 132 kilometres. By June 2026, 52 diesel hybrid buses (Rs3.2 billion) and 50 electric buses (Rs6.2 billion) will be added to expand the fleet.

Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development Ikramullah, Secretary Transport, and other officials attended the meeting to finalize infrastructure, fleet, and operational arrangements.

CM Afridi said the BRT expansion is a major step toward modern, eco-friendly transport in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, offering residents a convenient travel option.
