China Builds 20 Million EV Chargers Record - Carr.pk

The latest update on China’s EV charging infrastructure marks an amazing milestone for the Chinese EV market!

China has crossed a major milestone, installing over 20 million EV charging plugs by the end of 2025, creating the world’s largest and most advanced network to fuel its booming electric vehicle market.

Massive Scale and Rapid Growth

By December 2025, China’s total charging facilities reached 20.092 million, according to the National Energy Administration (NEA) reported by Business Today

This includes:

  • 4.717 million public chargers (up 31.9% year-on-year)
  • 15.375 million private chargers (up 56.2% year-on-year)

The network now supports more than 40 million new energy vehicles (NEVs), virtually eliminating range anxiety for drivers nationwide.

Record-Breaking Expansion Speed

According to the report shared by China Daily, the growth has been explosive:

  • It took 13 years to install the first 1 million chargers.
  • Just 18 months to double from 10 million to 20 million in 2025 alone.

Public chargers now deliver an average power of 46.5 kW (a 33% increase), while expressway coverage exceeds 98% with over 71,500 piles. Nineteen provinces have achieved full township-level access.

Driving China’s EV Boom

This infrastructure surge aligns with soaring NEV sales: 16.49 million units sold in 2025 (up 28.2%), claiming nearly 48% of total vehicle sales.

Better charging access creates a positive loop. This gives more EVs sold, stronger supply chains, and increased investment.

China aims to reach 28 million facilities by 2027, integrating smart technologies such as vehicle-to-grid (V2G) systems to improve energy management.

Why It Matters Globally and for Pakistan

As global EV demand rises, China’s achievement sets a high benchmark for rapid, scalable progress in sustainable transport.

Pakistan, under its New Energy Vehicle Policy 2025–2030, is actively planning to build its own EV ecosystem.

The policy targets 30% of new vehicle sales to be electric by 2030 and aims to install 3,000 charging stations nationwide by then, with subsidies and incentives to accelerate adoption, especially for two- and three-wheelers.

China’s success offers a powerful model and inspiration: By investing aggressively in charging infrastructure, Pakistan can overcome similar barriers, boost local manufacturing, reduce its fuel import dependence, and drive faster EV market growth.
