Denza Storms Australia: BYD’s Luxury Off-Roaders Priced to Undercut Land Cruiser and Everest - Carr.pk

BYD’s aggressive expansion into the Australian market has reached a new peak with the launch of its luxury sub-brand, Denza. Announcing sharp pricing and potent specifications for its B5 and B8 boxy SUVs, the Chinese automotive giant is directly challenging the established leaders of the large 4×4 segment, the Toyota Land Cruiser, Ford Everest, and Nissan Patrol.

With its pair of robust Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs), Denza is set to disrupt the status quo, offering significantly more power and a wealth of standard equipment for highly competitive prices. First deliveries are expected to begin in January 2026.

Denza B5: Targeting the Mid-Size 4×4 Segment

The Denza B5 is aimed squarely at buyers considering the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Ford Everest, offering a compelling blend of value and performance that immediately puts its rivals on notice.

Pricing and Performance:

  • Entry-Level Price: Starts from $74,990 before on-road costs.
  • Flagship B5 Leopard: Priced at $79,990 plus on-roads.
  • Powertrain: Underpinned by a body-on-frame chassis (shared with the BYD Shark 6 Ute), the B5 features a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine mated to two electric motors.
  • Output: The combined system delivers a mighty 505kW and 760Nm of torque, far exceeding the Everest V6 (184kW/600Nm) and Prado (150kW/500Nm).
  • Acceleration: Despite a kerb weight nearing 3000kg, the B5 sprints from 0–100km/h in just 4.8 seconds.
  • Range and Battery: A 31.8kWh LFP battery provides a claimed combined driving range of 850km (WLTP) and an electric-only range of 90km.
  • Towing: The B5 boasts a 3000kg braked towing capacity.

Key Features:

The five-seater B5 arrives stacked with features, including a 15.6-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 16-speaker Devialet sound system, and powered front seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. The range-topping Leopard adds 20-inch wheels and the highly anticipated DiSus-P adjustable hydraulic suspension.

Denza B8: Land Cruiser 300 and Patrol Challenger

Stepping up in size and luxury, the Denza B8 is positioned to take on the Land Cruiser 300 Series and Nissan Patrol. The B8 offers two highly-appointed seating configurations at an aggressively competitive price point.

Pricing and Performance:

  • Seven-Seat Price: Starts from $91,000 before on-roads.
  • Six-Seat Price: Priced from $97,990 plus on-road costs.
  • Powertrain: The B8 features a larger 2.0-litre petrol engine.
  • Output: Combined outputs stand at 425kW and 760Nm, maintaining the rapid 0–100km/h sprint time of 4.8 seconds.
  • Range and Battery: Equipped with a 36.8kWh battery, the B8 claims an even greater combined range of 905km and an electric-only range of 100km.
  • Towing: It matches its full-size rivals with a substantial 3500kg braked towing capacity.

Premium Appointments:

The B8 is a true luxury contender, with standard features including a 17.3-inch touchscreen, an 800-watt 18-speaker Devialet sound system, a head-up display, and a built-in refrigerator/hotbox. Importantly for a family hauler, it offers tri-zone climate control and heated and ventilated first and second-row seats. The top-spec six-seater configuration elevates the luxury further with Nappa leather and power-adjustable, massaging second-row seats with legrests.

The Denza B8 is also physically larger than a Land Cruiser Sahara, giving it an imposing presence with a length of 5195mm and a 2920mm wheelbase.

The arrival of the Denza B5 and B8 signals a fundamental shift in the Australian 4×4 and adventure segment, introducing highly powerful, tech-laden, and competitively priced hybrid options that will force established players to re-evaluate their offerings.
