Eight Months Into Fiscal Year, Rawalpindi Development Authority Delays Road Projects - Carr.pk

Eight months into the current fiscal year, the Rawalpindi Development Authority has not launched any development project, according to official records cited in a Dawn report.

The delay persists despite the passage of most of the development cycle, raising concerns over execution capacity within the authority.

The report states that the authority approved several development schemes earlier, including infrastructure-related projects, but none have moved into the implementation phase so far in the fiscal year.

Road and Infrastructure Schemes Still Pending

Officials quoted in the report confirmed that no work has started on development schemes, including those linked to roads and urban infrastructure.

The authority has yet to issue tenders or begin physical work on approved projects, even as the financial year moves closer to its final quarter.

The delay has also triggered concerns that allocated development funds may lapse if projects are not initiated within the remaining months.

Internal Reviews and Explanations

The matter was discussed in official meetings where concerns were raised over the slow pace of development.

Officials attributed the delay to procedural and administrative issues, though no firm timeline for the launch of projects was disclosed.

The report further notes that development authorities are expected to execute projects within the fiscal year to ensure the timely utilisation of funds, particularly for infrastructure and road-related works approved in the budget.

As of now, no announcement has been made regarding the start date of any road or infrastructure project under the authority’s current development programme.
