Electric Wheels at Airports: Pakistan’s Green Shift Begins
The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) is taking a major step toward sustainable airport operations by deploying electric vehicles (EVs) for ground support.
A BYD electric vehicle, painted in yellow-and-black checkers, recently appeared in action, marking the start of cleaner transport at airport facilities.
These electric vehicles will reduce emissions and noise from traditional petrol and diesel ground vehicles.
PAA’s initiative mirrors global trends, as airports increasingly adopt EVs to meet environmental goals.
Islamabad International Airport will support the transition by adding EV charging stations alongside conventional fuel pumps.
This will allow both vehicle types to operate efficiently.
Meanwhile, BYD is expanding its presence in Pakistan and will launch two additional EV models before January ends.
By electrifying ground operations, the Pakistan Airports Authority sets a practical example for sustainable aviation.
