EVs Are Winning the “Smart Car” Race at CES 2026 - Carr.pk

At this year’s CES tech show, people aren’t just talking about fancy new cars anymore. The real discussion is about how “smart” cars can actually become.

Cars are becoming computers on wheels that use AI for self-driving, traffic prediction, and super-smart features.

But there’s a problem…

Old-fashioned gas-powered cars are hitting a wall. They can’t handle the massive computing power required for next-level smarts.

Why Gas Cars Get Stuck

According to the report, the main issue is heat. Powerful computer chips create a lot of heat when doing heavy AI work.

In gas cars, there’s no good way to cool these chips properly; they mostly use fans or simple air cooling.

Once you try to add really strong computing, the heat builds up too much, and it’s hard and expensive to fix without completely redesigning the car.

This means most gas cars are limited to basic smart features. Going beyond that costs too much money for regular car companies.

Why Electric Cars Have a Huge Advantage

Electric vehicles (EVs) already have a built-in solution: their large battery packs need liquid cooling to stay safe and prevent overheating.

That same cooling system easily handles the extra heat from powerful AI chips.

So EVs can pack in much stronger computers without extra hassle or high costs. They can run advanced self-driving tech, real-time AI decisions, and future updates more easily.

What Experts and Companies Are Saying

Big chip companies have different views. Some, like Nvidia, want to keep making super-powerful chips for full self-driving.

Others like NXP focus on smart, safe, and affordable options that don’t waste energy.

This difference in cooling ability could make EVs the clear winner for the smartest, most advanced cars, especially the expensive, high-tech ones people buy for AI features and self-driving.

In simple words, Gas cars are like old laptops that overheat if you run heavy games.  EVs are like new gaming laptops with great built-in fans; they can handle way more without breaking a sweat.
