Fan-Favourite Audi A2 Set for Electric Comeback
Audi is preparing to revive the A2 nameplate for a new entry-level electric model, with an official reveal expected before the end of 2026. The upcoming EV is positioned as a modern successor to the original A2 hatchback that debuted in 2000.
According to company sources, the new model will become the brand’s most affordable electric vehicle and is expected to go on sale in early 2027.
New Entry-Level Electric Audi
The upcoming A2 EV is likely to replace both the Audi A1 hatchback and the Q2 SUV, which are scheduled to end production in 2026.
Reports suggest the new electric A2 will start at around €34,000, placing it below the Q4 e-tron in Audi’s EV lineup.
This pricing strategy indicates Audi’s push toward more accessible electric models, especially in the compact premium segment.
Familiar Shape with a Modern Twist
Test mules indicate the new A2 will feature a crossover-style body with a single-volume silhouette, a short bonnet, and a split rear window, with design cues inspired by the original A2.
Audi engineers reportedly see it as filling the space left by models like the BMW i3, focusing on practicality and efficiency rather than traditional hatchback proportions.
MEB Platform and Expected Range
The electric A2 was initially planned to use Volkswagen Group’s new SSP platform, but delays have pushed it to the existing MEB architecture, the same platform used in the Volkswagen ID.3.
That setup typically offers battery sizes between 58kWh and 79kWh, with power outputs from 168bhp to 282bhp.
Thanks to a more aerodynamic body, the top-spec A2 is expected to deliver a driving range exceeding the ID.3’s 595km figure.
Pakistan Launch Speculation
This development is part of Audi’s global electrification strategy and is currently focused on European and international markets. There has been no official word regarding a Pakistan launch, and Audi does not currently offer any fully electric models in the local lineup.
However, if the new A2 EV achieves its target pricing as an entry-level premium electric car, it could become a more realistic option for emerging markets in the coming years.
As Pakistan gradually expands EV policies and charging infrastructure, such compact, premium electric models may eventually reach the local market through official channels or private imports, especially after the global launch expected in 2027.
