Ford Owners in Pakistan Advised Amid U.S. Fire Risk Recall - Carr.pk

Ford Motor Company has recalled 119,075 vehicles in the U.S. due to a fire risk in the engine block heater system.

The recall affects several Ford and Lincoln models with 2.0-liter engines.

Ford recalls over 119,000 US vehicles over engine block heater fire risk, NHTSA says

The affected models include select 2016–2018 Ford Focus, 2013–2019 Ford Escape, 2019 and 2024 Ford Explorer, and 2015–2016 Lincoln MKC vehicles.

The defect can cause the engine block heater to crack and leak coolant.

This may trigger a short circuit and increase the risk of under-hood fires if the heater is plugged into a 110-volt outlet.

Though this recall is U.S.-based, Pakistani Ford and Lincoln owners with imported or parallel-market vehicles should be cautious.

Avoid using engine block heaters until repairs are done. Check the VIN using Ford or NHTSA tools before plugging in the heater.

Ford is developing a new heater element for free replacement. Dealers can also provide an interim solution.

They remove the faulty heater and install a threaded plug while returning the heater cord to the owner.

Interim safety letters will start mailing in February, with full repairs expected by April when parts arrive.

Owners should stay alert for any warning signs of a potential engine block heater issue.

These include coolant spots on the floor, reduced performance of the cabin heater, engine overheating, warning lights indicating low coolant levels, or unusual heat, smoke, or smells coming from under the hood.

Noticing any of these signs early can help prevent serious damage or fire risks.

Ford reports no accidents or injuries linked to this defect so far.

Pakistani owners with imported models should remain alert and schedule repairs once parts are available.
