Goodbye Petrol Cars, Punjab Govt. Unveils New EV Fleet in Traffic Police - Carr.pk

A recent post by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has confirmed that the Punjab Traffic Police has formally inducted electric vehicles into its fleet, starting with the BYD Atto 3.

Background and Context

The shift towards electric mobility was first signaled earlier this week, when Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced on social media that the Punjab government would cease purchasing internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles for government use and would only purchase hybrid and electric vehicles.

Following this announcement, a viral video surfaced showing the Lahore Traffic Police patrolling in a BYD Atto 3. At the time, PakWheels reached out to a Traffic Police official who confirmed the development, adding that the department is also incorporating the BYD Shark 6 pickup truck into its operations alongside the Atto 3.

Official Confirmation

The official images released from the ceremony showcase the electric SUVs in full police livery, ready for duty. However, notably missing from this visual confirmation so far is the BYD Shark 6 pickup truck, which department officials had previously stated would also be joining the patrol squad.
