Green Line BRT Expansion to Connect Key Karachi Routes - Carr.pk

Work on the Green Line BRT extension in Karachi has resumed, aiming to improve public transport across the city. The 1.8-kilometer extension will run from Numaish Chowrangi to Jama Cloth Market. Once completed, commuters will be able to travel smoothly from Surjani Town to Jama Cloth.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab said Pakistan Infrastructure Development Co Ltd (PIDCL) has committed to finish the project and open it for the public by October 31, 2026. He added that earlier objections were meant to ensure corrections and improvements for the city’s benefit.

The mayor shared these updates during a press conference on MA Jinnah Road, joined by federal government spokesperson Raja Khaleeq-uz-Zaman Ansari, MNAs Aminul Haq, Ali Khurshidi, Dr Arshad Vohra, and other officials. Wahab stressed that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation was initially not consulted about the extension and highlighted the importance of resolving drainage and sewerage issues first.

“Our focus is to support Karachi’s development. Mass transit must benefit ordinary citizens,” Wahab said. He also acknowledged challenges faced earlier on the route from Surjani to Numaish but said these were being addressed.

He thanked the Prime Minister for releasing funds for the BRT project and quoted Quaid-i-Azam: if everyone works together for the city’s progress, no obstacle can stop them.
