Green Policing Begins: Electric Vehicles for Lahore Traffic Police
The Lahore Traffic Police has introduced electric and hybrid patrol vehicles to promote eco-friendly policing. The move marks a major shift toward sustainable traffic management in the city.
The initiative comes under the Punjab govt’s first Green Policing Unit. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz formally inaugurated the project.
During the launch ceremony, the chief minister test-drove an electric patrol vehicle.
The vehicle features 360-degree cameras, advanced monitoring systems, police lights, and a public announcement system. The fleet includes BYD electric models, built for urban policing needs.
Each vehicle can travel up to 410 kilometers on a single charge. Fast-charging technology allows the battery to reach 80% in 30 minutes.
Officials estimate the fleet will save around 4,500 liters of fuel per year while producing zero carbon emissions.
The Lahore Traffic Police will use the electric vehicles for routine patrols, traffic signal monitoring, violation enforcement, and quick response.
Authorities aim to improve efficiency while reducing environmental impact.
The Punjab govt plans to expand the Green Policing Unit to other districts.
