Gujranwala Introduces Bodycams for Traffic Police
Gujranwala Traffic Police have equipped traffic wardens with body-worn cameras in a move aimed at increasing transparency and reducing disputes between motorists and officers.
The initiative, launched under the directives of the Punjab government, marks a significant step toward modernising traffic enforcement in the city.
City Police Officer Dr Ghayas Gul Khan and Chief Traffic Officer Ayesha Butt formally rolled out the project, equipping around 100 traffic wardens deployed at key intersections, checkpoints, and busy corridors with body cameras.
The cameras record both audio and video during traffic stops and enforcement actions.
According to The Tribune, officials say the primary goal is to create a clear and verifiable record of interactions between wardens and drivers.
Gujranwala already operates under a Safe City framework, with e-challan systems that monitor traffic violations via surveillance cameras.
The addition of wearable bodycams strengthens enforcement by adding real-time, ground-level evidence. It also signals a shift toward technology-driven traffic management in Gujranwala, setting a precedent for other cities to follow.
