GWM TANK 500 HEV vs Kia Sorento HEV – 7-Seater Hybrid SUVs Comparison
Sazgar recently launched a locally assembled version of the GWM TANK 500 HEV and also added the new PHEV trim to the lineup in Pakistan.
If you don’t know, previously the TANK 500 was only available as an imported model in Pakistan, with a hefty price tag of Rs. 4.5 crore due to import duties.
To lower prices, Sazgar has introduced locally assembled variants, bringing the HEV to Rs. 2.05 crore, and the PHEV is priced at Rs. 2.25 crore.
At this price point, the TANK 500 on paper becomes a strong contender against several SUVs in the market, including the Toyota Fortuner GR-S and Kia Sorento HEV. While we’ve already compared it with the Fortuner GR-S, it’s now time for a quick one-to-one comparison with the Sorento.
Here’s a quick 1-1 comparison:
| GWM TANK 500 HEV | Specification | Kia Sorento HEV AWD |
| PKR 20,500,000 | Price | PKR 16,699,000 |
| 5,078 x 1,934 x 1,905 mm | Dimensions (L × W × H) | 4,815 x 1,900 x 1,700 mm |
| 2,850 mm | Wheelbase | 2,815 mm |
| Full-size SUV | Body Segment | Mid-size SUV |
| 2.0L | Engine Size | 1.6L |
| 342 HP & 648 Nm | Combined Power & Torque | 238 HP & 367 Nm |
| 1.76 kWh | Battery Capacity | 1 kWh |
| Body-on-frame | Chassis | Unibody |
| 9-Speed Automatic | Transmission | 6-Speed Automatic |
There are some key differences: the Sorento is a mid-size SUV, while the TANK 500 HEV is a full-size SUV, and there is an Rs. 3.8 million price gap.
However, since both are hybrid SUVs and offer 7-seater configurations, it makes sense to compare the Sorento with the TANK 500 HEV, as this comparison will give you a clearer idea of where the TANK 500 HEV stands in the current market.
