Honda Issues Safety Recall for 70,000+ Cars
Honda recalls more than 70,000 vehicles in the United States due to a potential brake performance issue that could affect stopping distance. American Honda announced a voluntary safety recall involving 70,658 Acura ILX sedans from model years 2016 to 2020.
According to filings with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), contaminated brake fluid may cause a seal inside the brake master cylinder to swell and deform. This defect can allow brake fluid to bypass the seal during low-speed braking, leading to reduced brake-pedal firmness. Honda recalls vehicles to address the risk of longer stopping distances under certain conditions.
Owners of affected vehicles will begin receiving notification letters by mail starting February 2026, with interim safety notices expected earlier. Honda recalls vehicles even though the Acura ILX was discontinued in 2022, emphasizing long-term safety for existing owners.
Honda recalls vehicles and will replace the affected brake master cylinder assembly free of charge once parts become available. Drivers are advised to check their vehicle identification number (VIN) through the NHTSA website or Honda and Acura’s official recall portals.

While no crashes or injuries related to the issue have been reported, experts note that brake-related recalls are among the most serious safety actions due to their direct impact on vehicle control.
