Hyundai and Kia Set Their 2026 Global Sales Target After Near-Miss 2025
South Korea’s Hyundai Motor and affiliate Kia aim for a combined 3.2% growth in global vehicle sales, targeting 7.51 million units in 2026 despite narrowly missing their 2025 objectives. As reported by Reuters
Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Corp announced their 2026 ambitions on January 5, focusing on moderate expansion amid global challenges like U.S. tariffs and shifting demand.
2025 Performance of Hyundai and KIA
The duo sold approximately 7.28 million vehicles in 2025. Hyundai at 4.14 million (below its 4.17 million target) and Kia at 3.14 million (short of 3.22 million).
Despite the misses, Kia achieved record annual sales with 2% year-on-year growth, driven by strong SUV and hybrid demand.
2026 Targets and Strategies
- Combined goal: 7.51 million units (up 3.2%).
- Hyundai: 4.16 million vehicles.
- Kia: 3.35 million vehicles (up 4.2% from 2025 target).
Both brands plan to sustain momentum by expanding hybrid lineups, particularly for popular SUVs like the Kia Telluride and Seltos.
They will boost U.S. hybrid production to compete with leaders like Toyota, increase EV volumes in Europe, and enhance global supply chains.
This flexible approach to electrification, which balances hybrids and EVs, positions the group strongly for recovery.
