Islamabad Adds 5 More Vehicle E-Tagging Points - Carr.pk

Islamabad’s e‑tagging registration campaign is gaining momentum as authorities scale up services to ensure compliance ahead of mandatory enforcement.

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has increased the number of facilitation centers from 19 to 24 locations across the city to make it easier for motorists to register their vehicles under the new digital tagging system.

So far, 219,979 vehicles have been e‑tagged, a significant rise as officials push to bring more drivers into the fold before full implementation.

In a bid to serve citizens better, two centers now operate 24/7, while an additional two provide extended 24‑hour services — giving vehicle owners more flexibility beyond regular office times. This expansion comes as authorities have begun enforcement actions against vehicles without e‑tags, with checkpoints actively identifying and stopping non‑compliant vehicles.

The e‑tagging initiative, part of the broader Safe & Secure Islamabad plan, aims to digitize vehicle monitoring and enhance security, traffic management and compliance with city entry regulations. Motorists can visit these centers to register their vehicles, complete biometric verification, and receive RFID‑based e‑tags that are affixed to windshields for automatic identification at checkpoints.

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has made it clear that vehicles without valid e‑tags—or existing M‑Tags that act as equivalent RFID identifiers—will be prohibited from entering the capital city’s limits beginning this year, pushing compliance among daily commuters and out‑of‑city drivers alike.

As reported, the authorities are also installing advanced tag readers at key entry points to ensure real‑time scanning and enforcement, underscoring the government’s focus on modernizing urban traffic systems.

Originally, enforcement was scheduled to start on January 1, 2026, when vehicles without tags were to be barred from entering the city, but the deadline was later extended by about two weeks to January 15, 2026, in response to high demand at registration centers and to ease the process for citizens.

Now that January 15, 2026, has passed, authorities are enforcing the rule: vehicles without a valid e‑tag or M‑Tag may face restrictions when entering or moving within the federal capital and could be subject to penalties as part of the city’s vehicle monitoring and security system.
