Islamabad Introduces New Rules for Motorcycles - Carr.pk

The Federal Capital’s vehicle M-Tag initiative, already successfully implemented for cars, is set to expand to motorcycles.

Starting February 20 at 10:00 AM, motorcycle owners will be able to obtain M-Tags across 13 designated points in the city by presenting their vehicle documents and CNICs.

The new requirement will apply to all types of motorcycles, including bikes, heavy bikes, and scooters. So far, over 600,000 vehicles have received M-Tags, while registration for ride-hailing services such as Bikeeya and online taxis continues separately.

The M-Tag system was first introduced in Islamabad in 2013 to facilitate smooth movement between Islamabad and Rawalpindi while enhancing security, as tags are issued only after thorough verification of both the vehicle and its owner.

The initiative was launched under the directions of then Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. In 2017, authorities tested Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) devices in the capital and installed scanners at city entrances and the Red Zone as part of the Safe City Project.

Authorities said the move aims to improve the safety and security of the city and its commuters. Citizens are urged to cooperate with the ongoing M-Tag campaign.
