ITP Issues Traffic Alert as Rawalpindi Hosts Tri-Nation T20 Series

RAWALPINDI — The Tri-Nation T20 cricket series kicks off tomorrow (18 November) at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, and the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has released a detailed traffic plan in anticipation of congestion across major Islamabad–Rawalpindi corridors.

Featuring Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe, the week-long tournament is expected to attract heavy crowds, security convoys, and match-day rush, prompting advisories for daily commuters.

Key Traffic Details for Match Days

According to the ITP, the following measures will be in effect:

• Heavy delays expected on Srinagar Highway, Islamabad Expressway, Ninth Avenue, and roads leading to Rawalpindi Stadium.
  
• 300+ ITP officers deployed to manage diversions and assist commuters.
  
• Extra travel time: Drivers should add 15–20 minutes to their routine on match days.
  
• Live updates on FM 92.4 and Islamabad Police’s social media.

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel near the stadium and cooperate with authorities during peak hours.

Security Boost

The authorities’ tightened traffic and movement plan follows the decision to shift the entire series to Rawalpindi after a suicide bombing incident in nearby Islamabad earlier this month. Originally scheduled to be shared between Lahore and Rawalpindi, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) consolidated the tournament to a single venue for logistical and security reasons.

Both Sri Lankan and Zimbabwean teams confirmed their participation after security briefings, praising local coordination efforts.
