Jaecoo J7 Recalled Internationally Over Engine Shutdown Issue
In Australia, Omoda & Jaecoo has issued a safety recall for 1,028 units of the 2025 Jaecoo J7 vehicles. The recall has been initiated due to a manufacturing defect in the vehicle’s electronic control unit (ECU) wiring harness.
The Technical Fault
According to the recall notice lodged with the Australian Department of Infrastructure, the defect involves the ECU wiring harness potentially rubbing against the engine mounting bracket.
The official notice states:
“Due to a manufacturing defect, the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) wiring harness may chafe against the engine mounting bracket and become damaged.”
Over time, this friction can compromise the wiring, potentially leading to a sudden loss of motive power or an unexpected engine shutdown. The company warns that such a failure while driving could “increase the risk of an accident, causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”
Affected Variants:
The affected vehicles are exclusively the 1.6-litre turbocharged variant in Australia.
Owners of the affected units in Australia will be contacted by Jaecoo in writing to schedule a free inspection and repair at their local dealerships.
Editor’s Note: This recall is specific to the Australian 1.6L turbo model and does not relate to the Pakistani Jaecoo J7 PHEV variant as of now.
