Karachi E-Challan: How to Get Rid of Fines on Your Old Vehicles?
Many Karachi residents have reported receiving e-challans for vehicles they sold long ago and no longer own.
These fines are usually issued when traffic cameras record a violation, but because the vehicle ownership record hasn’t been updated, the challan still goes to the previous owner.
The main reason behind this issue is delay in vehicle ownership transfer. When someone sells a car but the buyer fails to update ownership records with the Excise and Taxation Department, the system continues to show the old owner’s name. As a result, if the new owner violates traffic rules, the fine is sent to the seller.
What You Can Do
Experts suggest gathering all documents related to the sale, including the sale agreement, payment receipt, transfer request, and excise office receipts. These documents will prove that the car was sold before the date of violation.
Next, visit the nearest Karachi Traffic Police (KTP) office with your CNIC, e-challan notice, and sale documents. Request the staff to verify the footage and registration records. If the evidence confirms that the car had already been sold, the challan will be cancelled or transferred to the new owner.

Additionally, if your name still appears in the Excise Department records, update the ownership details immediately to avoid future e-challans.
Traffic authorities have advised citizens to complete vehicle transfer formalities right after selling their cars to prevent such complications in the future.
