The System Works! Fake Number Plate Scam Exposed by Karachi’s E-Challan System
KARACHI — The recently inaugurated e-challan system revealed a vehicle with a fake number plate, according to ARY News.
As per reports, the vehicle owner, who was issued two e-challans of Rs. 10,000 within 13 days, filed a police report. He stated that, while the number plate belongs to him, the vehicle listed in the e-challan is not his.
He noted that the vehicle he owns is a 2015 model, while the vehicle in violation is a 2012 model.
Police took immediate action and used the e-challan system’s database to track the vehicles and the issued challans.
The e-challan images show two individuals driving at the Karachi Toll Plaza on the M-9 Motorway, where both were issued seatbelt violation challans. One picture shows two people in the car, while the other shows a single driver.
The police have commented on the matter, stating that a large number of vehicles with fake number plates are operating in Karachi to evade e-challans. They assured that, while this scam is an inconvenience to innocent citizens, the violators cannot outsmart Karachi’s advanced e-challan monitoring system.
This news is a welcome one, considering that the e-challan system has recently been under a lot of heat for issuing incorrect e-challans. With citizens raising concerns about the reliability of Karachi’s e-challan system, the use of its database to expose criminal offenses is reassuring.
