Karachi Police to Crack Down on Illegal Number Plates This Friday
Karachi — Starting this Friday, Karachi Police will launch a citywide operation targeting illegal, fake, and concealed number plates. The crackdown, which will involve district police, Karachi Traffic Police, the Excise and Taxation Department, and the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), aims to address the growing issue of number plate tampering to evade traffic enforcement.
According to the Traffic Police officials, vehicles with altered or fake plates will be impounded, and offenders will face charges under relevant traffic laws. The operation will focus particularly on vehicles avoiding fines through concealed or fake plates.
The Karachi Traffic Police also issued a public warning via social media, stating that motorists caught with fake plates or mismatched registration numbers will face fines and their vehicles will be impounded. Vehicles with green plates, reserved for official use, will incur severe penalties. Excise receipts will also be required as proof of legal plate registration.
This crackdown follows a rise in the use of fake plates to dodge fines, with the city’s e-challan system already processing over 100,000 violations. As the operation intensifies, more violations are expected.
