Sindh Govt Launches Road Rehabilitation Drive in Karachi Covering 26 Major Roads - Carr.pk

The Sindh government, in partnership with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), has approved a Rs 9 billion project to rehabilitate 26 major roads across Karachi. This initiative aims to reduce traffic congestion and repair roads damaged by recent monsoons.

The project targets primary roads under various Town Municipal Corporations (TMCs) that have suffered from neglect. This initiative is part of the larger Karachi Transformation Plan, which has a total budget of Rs 84.8 billion, covering multiple infrastructure projects valued between Rs 20–30 billion.

Key projects include:

  • Rs 10.72 billion for six priority projects, such as the M-9 to Malir-15 road rehabilitation, a new flyover at Sohrab Goth, and an underpass at Malir Halt.
  • Rs 4.2 billion allocated for improvements on Rashid Minhas Road, S.M. Taufique Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, and Pehalwan Goth Road corridors.

    The drive includes primary corridors and arteries such as 

  • Rashid Minhas Road, 
  • Sir Shah Suleman Road, 
  • S.M. Taufiq Road, 
  • Pehalwan Goth Road, and 
  • Jahangir Road

    Work is also resuming on University Road.
    Improvements are planned across various districts, including District Central, District East, District South, District Korangi, District West, and District Malir.

    Specific projects include the 

  • Baloch Colony Expressway and 
  • Karimabad Underpass.

    Rehabilitation is also underway on the 

  • National Highway from 
  • Malir 15 to 
  • Manzil Pump

The Sindh government is collaborating with the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) for the design and execution of the project. Mayor Murtaza Wahab has instructed utility relocation and design work to be completed by February 2026, with construction starting in March 2026.
