Kedah JPJ nabs ‘Kelisa Gino’ modified w/o approval

If I had a ringgit for every Perodua Kelisa I’ve seen converted into a Daihatsu Mira Gino… anyway, the Kedah road transport department (JPJ) recently detained one on Jalan Ekor Kucing-Padang Serai, Kulim for having been “modified in terms of its structure and vehicle equipment without valid approval.”

A P22 saman notice was issued on the spot, while a PG1 notice and an inspection order notice under Section 61(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 were issued to the owner for taking the vehicle on to the road in a condition that does not comply with the original specifications.

Kedah JPJ nabs ‘Kelisa Gino’ modified w/o approval

Almost exactly a year ago, the Perak JPJ fined a ‘Kelisa Gino’ owner who, besides converting his car into the retro-cute Daihatsu, transplanted a 1.3 litre engine into it without approval (the Kelisa never left the factory with more than 1,000 cc).

Another instance happened in 2022, also involving the Perak JPJ. The owner was served a notice to inspect and instructed to revert his Kelisa to its original identity. Changing a vehicle’s identity without permission is an offence, even if it’s just swapping badges – learn more here.
