CM Murad Opens Rs6.1 Billion Korangi Causeway Bridge to Traffic
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has officially inaugurated the Korangi Causeway Bridge, a mega-infrastructure project costing Rs6.1 billion. The bridge is designed to resolve the persistent traffic bottlenecks and flood-related closures that have long plagued Karachi’s primary industrial link.
Ending Monsoon Traffic Issues
For years, the old Korangi Causeway was notorious for submerging during the monsoon season, cutting off the Korangi Industrial Area from the rest of the city. According to Dawn News, this new high-level bridge ensures:
- All-weather access: No more road closures during heavy rains.
- Six-lane capacity: Dedicated space for both heavy logistics and private vehicles.
- Reduced Detours: Eliminates the need for miles-long diversions through Jam Sadiq Bridge.
Vital Link for Karachi’s Economy
The Korangi Industrial Area is the backbone of Pakistan’s economy. By providing a reliable route for heavy containers and trucks, the bridge significantly lowers logistical costs. For the average commuter, the bridge offers a smoother surface that reduces vehicle maintenance costs, a major plus for those maintaining used cars in Karachi.
Better Fuel Efficiency and Travel Time
The bridge is expected to significantly reduce idling time in traffic. For Karachi drivers, less time spent in gridlock means:
- Lower Fuel Consumption: Consistent speeds improve fuel economy.
- Reduced Engine Wear: Less stop-and-go traffic preserves engine health.
- Enhanced Safety: Modern lighting and wider lanes improve nighttime visibility.
Next Steps for Commuters
The bridge is now officially open for all traffic. Motorists are encouraged to use this route immediately to bypass the traditional congestion at Brooks Chowrangi.
