KP Launches Eco-Friendly Electric Rickshaw to Boost Drivers’ Income
Under the KP Science Agenda, the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has introduced a cutting-edge electric rickshaw aimed at transforming urban transportation.
This initiative is designed to reduce fuel dependency, cut repair and maintenance costs, and offer drivers the opportunity to earn nearly double compared to conventional rickshaws.
Importantly, electric rickshaws are eco-friendly, producing zero emissions and promoting sustainable mobility across the province.
The announcement came during a High-Technology and Product Development Exhibition held at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar, where various innovative projects spearheaded by the provincial government were showcased.
Attendees were provided with detailed briefings on the manufacturing processes and unique features of the displayed technologies.
The exhibition highlighted a diverse range of advancements, including artificial skin for burn treatment, locally developed PCR diagnostic kits for Hepatitis B, C, HIV, and other diseases, liquid oxygen applications in mining, e-surgical instruments, and an e-study card system for students.

Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi, the event’s chief guest, emphasized the provincial government’s commitment to emerging technologies in biomedicine and advanced materials.
He noted that these initiatives aim to add value to natural resources, accelerate economic growth, and foster innovation-driven self-reliance.
Notably, Pakistan’s first locally produced artificial skin has been developed in collaboration with Pak-Austria Fachhochschule University, Haripur, ensuring timely and affordable burn treatment.
Likewise, PCR diagnostic kits developed by Khyber Medical University are expected to cut costs by 30–40%, reduce production time from 90 to 15 days, and strengthen local capacity for reliable molecular diagnostics, reducing dependence on imported solutions.
