Rawalpindi’s Kutchery Chowk Project Nears Major Milestone - Carr.pk

Rawalpindi’s multi-billion-rupee Kutchery Chowk traffic infrastructure project has hit a key mark with roughly 64 percent of construction work completed, the Punjab Communication and Works Department has confirmed, according to Dawn. The remodeling effort, aimed at making one of the city’s busiest intersections signal-free, involves flyovers, underpasses, and utility upgrades.

Punjab Highway Department Executive Engineer Qamar Ali Saqib told Dawn that structural work on the main flyovers and underpasses is done, and finishing tasks, including earth filling and utility service placement by Iesco, PTCL, and SNGPL, are underway.

With the main Kutchery Chowk works progressing, construction of three additional underpasses on Peshawar Road, part of an extended signal-free corridor, is slated to begin next month. Officials expect the Peshawar Road works to cost around Rs 8 billion and ease traffic flow on one of Rawalpindi’s most congested stretches.

This phase follows planning and utility relocation efforts coordinated with local authorities to minimise disruption; Iesco has started shifting electricity pylons to clear the way for underpass construction.

The Kutchery Chowk project includes two main flyovers and three underpasses designed to streamline traffic for more than 250,000 vehicles daily at this key junction connecting Old Airport Road, Saddar, Jehlum Road, and Peshawar Road.

Once complete, the combined works are expected to ease congestion, reduce travel times and support Rawalpindi’s push towards a signal-free corridor from Ammar Chowk to Motorway Chowk.
