Lahore EV Charging Explained: Where You Can Plug In - Carr.pk

If Pakistan’s EV charging story is a puzzle, Lahore is the corner piece you start with. The city has three things that most places in Pakistan still lack:

  • Real demand from early EV adopters
  • Big retail and commercial destinations where cars park for hours
  • Fuel retailers are experimenting with forecourt charging, not just one-off mall sockets

That combination is why Lahore is the most realistic city in Punjab for EV ownership without depending entirely on home charging.

TL;DR

Lahore has Pakistan’s most usable public charging mix: PSO Electro DC fast charging, GoGreen Avenue fast and ultra-fast charging at Packages Mall, and a growing set of destination and government chargers. It is good enough for daily EV life if you plan your charging routine, but it is not yet “charge anywhere, anytime.”

What “public EV charging” in Lahore actually looks like

Most Lahore chargers fall into two buckets:

1) DC fast charging (the useful one)
This is what you use when you want to add serious range quickly. PSO’s Electro push and GoGreen Avenue’s higher-power sites are the headline here.

2) Destination charging (the convenient one)
Malls, parking areas, some offices, and government sites. You charge while you shop or work.

A key reality check: “listed online” does not always mean “available today.” Chargers can be down for maintenance, blocked by parked cars, or limited to certain users. So this guide prioritizes locations and operators with stronger source signals.

Credible EV Charging Locations in Lahore

Instead of publishing a list that will be outdated in months, the focus here is on sites with the strongest available evidence and consistency.

PSO Electro at Girja Chowk

PSO’s Lahore launch materials point to the Sunshine Filling Station at Girja Chowk as an operational Electro DC fast charging site. PSO’s official EV charging communications also confirm that Lahore is one of the earliest cities to deploy electric vehicles.

Why this location matters:

  • Fuel station setting means better access and longer operating hours
  • Staff presence reduces access and safety issues
  • Suitable for quick urban top-ups

This site offers the most practical public charging currently available in Lahore.

Packages Mall GoGreen Electric Car Charging Station

Packages Mall officially confirms the availability of electric car charging at its covered parking entrance. GoGreen Avenue has publicly stated that it has installed fast and ultra-fast chargers at the same location, including higher-capacity units.

Why this site stands out:

  • Long average parking duration makes charging time less noticeable
  • Controlled parking environment reduces misuse and blockage
  • Central location with easy access from major city routes

For many EV owners in Lahore, this is currently the most comfortable and predictable public charging option.

Lahore Civil Secretariat Government EV Chargers

Punjab government initiatives have reported the installation of EV chargers within the Lahore Civil Secretariat, near the Department of Archives building.

While these chargers primarily support government operations, their significance is broader:

  • They indicate institutional EV adoption
  • Government charging often precedes wider public rollouts
  • Such installations help normalise EV infrastructure in high-visibility locations

Charging Speeds and What They Mean

Charging speed is one of the most misunderstood aspects of EV ownership. Real-world expectations matter more than theoretical maximums.

Here is what different charger types mean in practice:

  • AC charging (slow): best suited for locations where cars are parked for several hours, such as offices or overnight parking
  • DC fast charging around 60 kW: ideal for short stops and routine top-ups, comparable to a coffee break
  • DC fast charging above 120 kW: transforms charging from a task into a brief stop, especially for modern EVs

GoGreen Avenue’s Packages Mall deployment is notable because it publicly claims charger capacities of 120 kW to 240 kW, which is currently rare in Pakistan and significantly improves usability.

The Bottom Line

Lahore is currently the most EV-ready city in Punjab, combining forecourt DC fast charging, high-quality destination charging, and early government adoption. For daily urban driving, EV ownership is viable today with planning and awareness.

However, charging in Lahore still requires a strategy. Reliability, access, and clarity matter more than raw charger counts. The city is moving in the right direction, but the next leap will depend on consistency, maintenance, and scale, not just new announcements.
