Lahore to Install M-Tag on All Vehicles After Islamabad Rollout
Lahore police have prepared recommendations to install M-Tags on all vehicles in the city, following the rollout in Islamabad, 24NewsHD reported Thursday. The plan aims to digitize vehicle records and improve traffic management.
The M-Tag is an electronic chip fixed to the number plate. It allows authorities to access the complete vehicle record online. Officials said the system will make monitoring traffic easier and ensure proper documentation.
The summary of recommendations has been sent to the Home Department, moving the plan closer to implementation. Lahore authorities said they are reviewing logistics and scheduling for mass installation.
The Islamabad experience shows the system works efficiently. So far, 132,426 vehicles in Islamabad have received M-Tags. In the last 24 hours alone, 2,990 vehicles were tagged. Authorities urged remaining owners to avoid last-minute registration and complete the process on time.
M-Tag registration in Islamabad is available at designated centers. Extra staff have been deployed to handle high traffic during the final days. Vehicle owners need only basic identification and vehicle documents to complete the process.
