Shapatar Khabardaar! Lahore Roads Under Strict Watch 2026 New Year - Carr.pk

As Lahore prepares to welcome 2026, the City Traffic Police Lahore (CTPL) has finalized a comprehensive traffic management and security plan to ensure a smooth flow of vehicles and public safety. With massive crowds expected at hotspots like Liberty Market, Bahria Town, and DHA, authorities have deployed over 5,000 personnel to manage the festive rush.

Traffic Diversions and Road Closures

To prevent gridlock, several key arteries will face diversions. Areas surrounding Liberty Market and the Greater Iqbal Park will see restricted entry for private vehicles as the night progresses. Major diversions are planned for Mall Road, Jail Road, and Canal Bank Road to accommodate the influx of motorists heading toward fireworks displays.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore has confirmed that additional wardens will be stationed at 106 points across the city. For real-time updates on blockages, citizens are advised to use the Rasta App or tune into Rasta FM 88.6.

Zero Tolerance for Law Violations

The Punjab Police, under the directives of IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, has announced a “zero-tolerance” policy for reckless behavior. Special squads from the Dolphin Force and Elite Police will be patrolling high-traffic zones to curb:

  • One-Wheeling: Strict crackdowns on motorcyclists performing stunts.
  • ‘Hawai’ Firing: Immediate arrests and FIRs for aerial gunfire.
  • Modified Silencers: Vehicles causing noise pollution will be impounded.
  • Drink Driving: Increased checkpoints to monitor impaired motorists.

Authorities have already obtained surety bonds from previously identified habitual offenders to ensure a peaceful transition into the New Year.

Security and Surveillance

Lahore’s Safe City infrastructure will be utilized to its maximum capacity. CCTV cameras and drone surveillance will monitor public gatherings in real-time. According to official announcements, over 25,000 officers are on duty across the province, with a significant concentration in the provincial capital to safeguard families and prevent harassment in public spaces.

Takeaway for Motorists

If you are planning to celebrate outdoors, leave early to avoid the midnight rush. Ensure your vehicle documentation is complete and strictly adhere to parking regulations to avoid towing. Most diversions will remain in place until the early hours of January 1, 2026, or until traffic volume stabilizes.
