Lahore Traffic Police Gets New Uniforms and Electric Cars This Valentine’s
The Government of Punjab has approved a major upgrade for the Lahore Traffic Police, introducing new official uniforms and a modern electric patrol vehicle fleet as part of the province’s ongoing efforts to modernise traffic enforcement and promote environmental sustainability.
New Uniforms to Boost Professional Presence
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif issued an official notification on February 9, 2026, green-lighting new uniforms for traffic wardens set to be implemented from February 14.
In the first phase, the updated attire, dark blue trousers and white shirts, with a dark blue coat for office duties, will be rolled out in Lahore. Subsequent phases will expand uniform changes to Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan, Rawalpindi, and later across other districts in the province. Female traffic wardens will be permitted to wear a scarf and designated cap.
Officials say the refreshed dress code is part of a broader push to enhance recognisability, professionalism, and operational discipline among traffic personnel.
Electric Vehicles to Join the Patrol Fleet
In a significant shift toward eco-friendly policing, the Lahore Traffic Police will also deploy electric patrol vehicles to replace or supplement fuel-powered cars. These electrified cruisers will be integrated with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority’s monitoring systems, and are expected to save millions of rupees in fuel costs while reducing emissions.
As we reported earlier, the electric rollout has already begun with models such as the BYD Atto 3 being seen on patrol. PakWheels reports that these electric SUVs, and potentially plug-in hybrid units like the BYD Shark 6 pickup truck are now part of routine traffic operations, sporting full police livery and modern equipment.
Government’s Vision and Public Impact
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has positioned the changes as part of a wider strategy to modernise law enforcement and improve public order management in Punjab’s urban centres. Officials state the updated uniform will enhance the recognisability and professionalism of traffic personnel, while electric vehicles signal a shift toward greener, cost-effective policing solutions.
