LHC Cracks Down on Smog-Causing Vehicles in Lahore
The Lahore High Court has taken a decisive step to improve air quality in Punjab by ordering a comprehensive crackdown on all vehicles emitting black smoke.
Justice Shahid Karim issued the directive after hearing cases related to smog, instructing the Environmental Protection Department and the Environmental Protection Agency to target every smoky vehicle, with no exceptions. This includes government vehicles, police cars, and school buses.
The court also ordered fines for individuals responsible for dust pollution at construction sites in housing societies, emphasizing the need for strict adherence to environmental regulations and SOPs.
In addition, the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has been tasked with restoring parks and increasing tree planting efforts.
The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has been instructed to form a three-member team to protect historical gardens like Nasir Bagh.
All relevant officials have been ordered to submit progress reports, with the next hearing scheduled for January.
