M-2 Motorway Reopens After Dense Fog Clears
Traffic has resumed on the M-2 Motorway after heavy fog cleared and visibility improved, according to officials from the National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP).
Why Was the M-2 Closed?
Earlier in the day, the M-2—linking Lahore and Islamabad, was closed due to dense winter fog, which drastically reduced visibility and increased the risk of road accidents. With the arrival of the winter season, fog has blanketed large parts of Punjab, forcing the closure of major motorways across the region due to low to zero visibility. For commuter safety, motorways are often closed during night hours when visibility drops to unsafe levels.
Safety Advisory for Drivers
Although the motorway is now open, officials warn that fog is likely to return, especially during late-night and early morning hours. Motorists are urged to stay alert and follow these precautions:
-
Reduce speed and drive cautiously
-
Use fog lights and low-beam headlights
-
Maintain a safe following distance
-
Avoid sudden lane changes or braking
-
Check travel advisories before starting your journey
More Fog Expected
All travelers are advised to monitor weather conditions and official updates on fog-related closures. Further restrictions may be reimposed if visibility drops again.
