Pakistan’s First Homegrown EV Company Launched
Pakistan has taken a major step toward local electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing with the launch of its first government-backed, Made-in-Pakistan EV company, aimed at promoting affordable and sustainable mobility.
According to Dawn, the initiative was inaugurated by Provincial Minister for Energy and Sports Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar and MNA Malik Saiful Malook Khokhar at a ceremony held at the SBP e-Library, Nishtar Park Sports Complex.
While the company is not a government-owned automaker, its launch reflects strong public-sector support and aligns with Pakistan’s broader push toward electrification, renewable energy, and reduced reliance on imported fuel.
Why This Matters
With fuel prices remaining volatile and urban pollution rising, locally produced EVs could offer:
- Lower operating costs for consumers
- Reduced fuel imports
- New employment opportunities in local manufacturing
- Momentum for Pakistan’s evolving EV ecosystem
Industry observers believe such initiatives could encourage further local investment, technology transfer, and policy-backed EV adoption, especially if supported through incentives and infrastructure development.
A Growing EV Push
The launch comes amid increasing interest in domestic EV production, as Pakistan looks to align with global electrification trends and regional manufacturing shifts.
