Make in Pakistan gained renewed attention on Friday as the Chief Executive of the Engineering Development Board (EDB), Hammad Ali Mansoor, urged local vehicle producers to start exporting Pakistan-made cars.

He said Pakistan’s automobile market stands stronger than those of Bangladesh, Ethiopia, and Sri Lanka, giving the country a clear advantage.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Pakistan Auto Show at the Karachi Expo Centre, Hammad stressed that both car manufacturers and parts suppliers should adopt a forward-looking strategy and aim for export orders from global buyers.

Senior Vice President of FPCCI, Saqib Fiaz, noted that the local automotive sector has made visible progress this year under the Make in Pakistan approach. He expressed hope that the policy would soon be adopted across the entire industry, highlighting its importance for economic growth, job creation, and government revenue.

He said modern technology entering the auto sector would help it expand further, but a long-term industrial policy is essential to strengthen engineering, manufacturing, and development-related fields.

PAAPAM’s Senior Vice Chairman, Shehryar Qadir, in his welcome remarks, shared that more than 170 exhibitors are participating this year, including major local manufacturers and active auto-parts producers who support the country’s supply chain. He also acknowledged international exhibitors from China, Korea, Singapore, and Iran, saying their presence adds value and enhances global connections.

Shehryar noted that the auto industry is dealing with several policy challenges that will shape its long-term direction. Even so, he said the exhibition proves the sector’s ability to innovate and counters the belief that Pakistan does not produce anything locally.
