MG plans to introduce a new entry-level electric hatchback called the MG 2, aiming for a 2027 launch in the UK and Europe. MG’s UK team will design the car and position it beneath the MG4 in the line-up. The company expects pricing to start below £25,000.

Speaking to Autocar, MG Motor UK representative David Allison described a compact EV as “the obvious area of the market that’s next to happen.”

Allison also noted that the project is “still probably over a year away,” indicating a 2027 timeline. He emphasized that MG prioritizes value over price-cutting for its own sake.

Technical details remain limited. Autocar reports that MG will use SAIC’s Modular Scalable Platform for the MG 2, as it does for the MG4.

MG has already built early concepts. Its London design studio will lead the styling, with engineering support from Longbridge.

The design aims to reflect a European‑centric approach for a sub‑four‑metre electric car.

In Europe, MG expects the car to compete with small electric vehicles like the BYD Atto 1 and Renault 5.

What It Means For Pakistan?

If MG launches the MG 2 in Pakistan by 2026 or 2027, it could deliver a much-needed affordable EV option for urban buyers.

With its compact design and expected price tag below PKR 10 million (pre-duties), the MG 2 would likely compete with the BYD Atto 3 and other upcoming budget EVs from Chinese brands.

Its arrival could drive EV adoption in cities and increase demand for improved charging infrastructure.

Although MG hasn’t officially announced a Pakistan launch, the company’s past activity in the market suggests it could bring the MG 2 here as a strong contender.
