MG U9 Review : Pakistan’s 2.5L Turbo Diesel Pick-Up Truck
MG Pakistan has established a reputation for non-traditional launches that command the spotlight. From introducing the country’s first plug-in hybrid with the MG HS to showcasing the electric MG Roadster, they consistently push market boundaries.
At the Pakistan Auto Show (PAPS) 2025, MG elevated its game further by debuting the MG U9, a versatile and unique pick-up truck designed to challenge the established players in the segment.
A Global First Look
Pakistan will be only the second country in the world to launch the MG U9, following Australia. While bookings began in Australia in October, Pakistani enthusiasts got their first look at the vehicle during PAPS 2025.

Bold, American-Inspired Design
The MG U9 is a massive double-cabin pick-up that draws heavy design inspiration from American trucks like the Tundra and competitors like the Ford Ranger. Key exterior highlights include:
- Front Fascia: An “Energy Matrix” grille paired with tri-LED matrix headlamps and 7-shaped DRLs.
- Geometric Philosophy: Unlike curvy traditional designs, the U9 features sharp, geometric lines and cuts throughout the body, including the wheel arches.
- Wheels: Large 20-inch wheels with a hyper-finish, fitted with Continental tires.
- Innovative Truck Bed: One of the largest beds in its class, featuring a unique three-step hydraulic tailgate that can transform into a staircase for easy access.
Power and Performance
Under the hood, the MG U9 moves away from hybrid technology in favor of a robust Internal Combustion Engine (ICE).
- Engine: 2.5L Turbo Diesel.
- Output: 214 Horsepower and 520 Nm of torque.
- Transmission: 8-speed automatic transmission.
- Suspension: Double wishbone suspension at the front and an independent multi-link setup at the rear, designed to balance off-road rigidity with on-road comfort.
A Premium, Tech-Forward Interior
The cabin of the U9 feels more like a luxury SUV than a traditional work truck. The interior uses high-quality materials, including soft-touch plastics, leatherette, and suede/Alcantara finishes on the pillars and roof liner.
Display
A dual-screen setup featuring a 12.3-inch infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Comfort
The driver’s seat is 8-way power-adjustable with massage, heating, and ventilation functions. Remarkably, even the rear seats are heated.
Audio and Vision
Equipped with a premium JBL sound system and a massive panoramic glass roof, the largest in its category.
Tech Features
Includes a 540-degree camera (clear chassis view), a 50W wireless charger, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and “Over-the-Air” (OTA) software updates.
Uncompromised Safety
The U9 is packed with Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and safety features, including:
- Seven airbags for comprehensive protection.
- Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Assist.
- 12 present Driving Modes including 5 extreme off-road, 4 off roading, 3 normal and 3 custom modes.
- Blind Spot Detection and Collision Avoidance (front and back).
- Driver Fatigue Sensor and Child Presence Detection.
The MG U9 represents a “lifestyle shift,” combining 4×4 ruggedness with the comfort and technology of a high-end passenger car.
In Pakistan the MG U9 has now been officially priced: the Explore Pro (Standard) variant is set at PKR 22,749,000, while the Explore Pro + Smart Hatch option comes in around PKR 23,949,000 (ex‑factory, before freight, insurance and other on‑road costs).
