Motorway Services Under Review as Govt Sets 15-Day Deadline - Carr.pk

The federal government has given the National Highway Authority (NHA) and the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) a strict 15-day deadline to address various infrastructure and service-related issues on Pakistan’s motorway network. The urgent directive aims to improve the quality of services provided on these key transport routes.

Inspection of Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M-2)

The instructions were issued by Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan during an inspection of the Lahore–Islamabad Motorway (M-2). During his visit, the minister reviewed the condition of several important rest areas, including Sukhiki, Sial, and Bhera, all of which serve as vital stops for thousands of daily commuters and long-distance travelers.

Key Deficiencies Identified

The inspection revealed several deficiencies in motorway service areas, including:

  • Poorly maintained washrooms
  • Inadequate mosque facilities
  • Substandard food outlets
  • Limited parking spaces
  • General maintenance issues

The minister expressed dissatisfaction over these issues, emphasizing the need for immediate action to improve the quality of services offered to motorway users.

Action Plan and 15-Day Deadline

In response to these findings, Minister Abdul Aleem Khan directed both NHA and FWO to work together to prepare a detailed report and action plan within 15 days.

The plan should focus on Immediate repairs to address pressing infrastructure concerns and long-term improvements to enhance the overall quality of motorway services.

Focus on Modern Standards

The minister also emphasized the importance of ensuring that motorway rest areas meet modern, international standards. Key requirements include:

  • Well-maintained facilities
  • Uniform shop layouts
  • Officially regulated prices to prevent overcharging

He also directed authorities to begin collecting daily traffic data to better plan future upgrades and manage the increasing demand on the motorway network.

Growing Public Concern

This initiative comes at a time when public concern is growing over the declining service quality on major highways. Despite motorways being among the country’s most important transport corridors for trade, tourism, and intercity travel, many users have raised concerns about the substandard facilities at key rest areas.

Conclusion

With the 15-day deadline set for corrective measures, the government is taking a proactive step to improve motorway services and infrastructure. By addressing these issues swiftly, authorities aim to meet the growing demands of travelers and enhance the overall experience on Pakistan’s motorway network.
