Multan–Sukkur Motorway Reopens After Fog Closure - Carr.pk

Multan/Sukkur — The Multan–Sukkur Motorway (M-5), which was temporarily closed from Uch Sharif to Zahir Pir due to dense fog, has officially reopened to traffic.

The closure, enacted as a precaution to protect motorists, followed a drastic reduction in visibility, significantly increasing the risk of accidents along this critical route.

Although the motorway is now accessible, authorities are urging drivers to remain extra cautious, particularly in areas where fog is still present. With weather conditions expected to remain unpredictable, the following safety precautions are strongly recommended:

  • Maintain Lane Discipline: Drivers should adhere strictly to lane markings, as lane violations in low-visibility conditions can be particularly hazardous.
  • Travel During Daylight: The safest time to travel is between 10 AM and 6 PM, when visibility is generally better. Fog can be more intense in the early morning and evening hours.
  • Use Fog Lights: It is essential to use fog lights when traveling in such conditions. Drivers should avoid using high beams, as they can reflect off the fog and worsen visibility.
  • Keep a Safe Distance: Maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle ahead is crucial in low-visibility conditions to allow for timely reactions if sudden braking occurs.
  • Limit Unnecessary Travel: Travelers are advised to avoid unnecessary journeys when foggy conditions are severe, to reduce the risk of accidents.

For further assistance or to report an issue, motorists can contact the motorway police helpline at 130.
