Murree Glass Train: Route, Fares, and Ride Details Announced
The Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMA) has officially announced the operational details, including the route, four station stops, and fares, for the highly anticipated Murree Glass Train. This 40-kilometer electric monorail is set to connect Islamabad and the hill station of Murree, offering an eco-friendly, fast, and scenic travel alternative to combat road congestion.
The project, which is actively backed by the Punjab government, aims to revolutionize access to tourism, promising a swift 40-minute journey between the two points.
The Scenic Route: Stops and Duration
The monorail’s track is mostly elevated, ensuring passengers benefit from uninterrupted, panoramic views through the train’s glass walls. The entire 40-kilometer journey is estimated to take just 40 minutes.
The route features four defined passenger stops:
- Lake View Park (Islamabad – Starting Point)
- Chattar Park Station
- Ghora Gali Station
- Murree Bus Station
Fare Structure and Eco-Friendly Features
The PMA has established a two-tiered fare system for the service:
- Standard: Rs. 500
- Premium: Rs. 1,000
As an electric monorail, the system offers significant environmental benefits by drastically reducing emissions and providing a guaranteed way to bypass the persistent traffic bottlenecks that road travelers encounter during peak seasons.
Future Connectivity and Feasibility
The project’s feasibility study is complete, addressing potential technical concerns related to Murree’s high altitude (2,200 meters).
In a key development for commuters and international visitors, consultants have proposed connecting the monorail network with the Islamabad International Airport. This planned expansion would integrate with the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) existing metro infrastructure at Faizabad, providing a seamless and rapid transit option between the airport, the capital, and Murree.
The PMA is expected to announce the final launch date and operational schedule in the near future, pending remaining project approvals.
