Govt Sets Deadline to Complete 813 km N-25 Expressway in Balochistan
The federal government has officially launched the reconstruction and dualization of the N-25 Pakistan Expressway, marking a major push to improve road safety and connectivity in Balochistan.
The 813-kilometer highway connects Karachi, Quetta, and Chaman and plays a critical role in trade, security, and passenger movement. Therefore, the government has decided to upgrade the existing road into a four-lane dual carriageway built to international safety standards.
The project carries an estimated cost of Rs300 billion to Rs350 billion. Meanwhile, construction work has formally begun, and crews are already accelerating progress on the Khuzdar–Wadh section.
Earlier this month, Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan said the government aims to complete the project within two years. As a result, authorities have instructed contractors to maintain strict timelines and quality benchmarks.
For decades, motorists have known the N-25 Pakistan Expressway as the “Killer Road” due to frequent fatal accidents. However, the new design directly addresses these dangers by correcting hazardous alignments and widening narrow stretches to prevent head-on collisions.
Additionally, authorities will install modern road infrastructure, including clear signage, reinforced safety barriers, and advanced signaling systems. Moreover, the plan includes service areas on both sides of the expressway, featuring rest facilities, vehicle workshops, and fuel stations.
Once completed, the upgraded N-25 Pakistan Expressway will sharply reduce travel time between key destinations from nearly 18 hours to about 6 hours. Consequently, transporters and commuters will benefit from faster, safer, and more reliable travel.

Officials believe the project will strengthen regional trade, improve access to remote districts, and support long-term economic growth across Balochistan.
Furthermore, better road connectivity will enhance emergency response and logistics movement. The government views the reconstruction of the N-25 Pakistan Expressway as a strategic investment that will transform one of the country’s most dangerous highways into a secure and efficient transport corridor.
