No M-Tag? No Entry in Islamabad - Carr.pk

Islamabad authorities have announced a major change for drivers: starting January 1, 2026, every vehicle entering the federal capital must have an M-Tag.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi revealed this decision during a visit to Safe City headquarters, emphasizing its role in making Islamabad safer and smarter.

Why the Mandate?

The rule supports Islamabad’s transformation into a “Capital Smart City.” Naqvi directed officials to integrate services such as traffic management, security, and emergency response into a single central system.

This rule applies to all vehicles, whether registered in Islamabad or other provinces, primarily four-wheelers.

How to Comply

Almost 100,000 vehicles have already received M-Tags since November, according to DC Islamabad.

Visit one of 16 issuance points across the city, open daily, with your vehicle documents and CNIC. The process is quick and costs around Rs. 250.

Moreover, you don’t need any additional M-tag for this purpose; your existing one works fine. This initiative is a part of broader tech reforms that include enhanced surveillance, proven effective during events like Muharram.
