Zero Leniency: Punjab Fines 60 Lac Motorcyclists in 2025 - Carr.pk

In a recent press conference, DIG Traffic Punjab Waqas Nazir unveiled the Punjab Traffic Police’s annual report, in which 60 lakh challans were issued to motorcycle riders, out of which 5.28 lakh riders were challaned for not wearing helmets, and 4 lakh challans were handed out for “triple-riding” (carrying more than two passengers).

The Good News: Lives Saved

While the fines may sting, the crackdown has had a life-saving impact as well. Nazir shared that the strict enforcement led to an 88% increase in helmet usage across the province.

As a result, he shared that head injury accidents among motorcyclists dropped by a remarkable 82%

The Bigger Picture

Broadening the scope beyond just bikes, the DIG also shared that overall 1.2 crore challans were issued this year alone, proving that authorities are no longer turning a blind eye to reckless driving.

Moreover, this enforcement follows a major policy shift. In early November, the Punjab government amended the traffic ordinance, increasing fines by up to 900% in some cases to deter violators.

There is also talk of future changes; earlier, we reported that the provincial government is considering lowering the legal age for a motorcycle license to 16 years, though this law has not yet been passed.

Lastly, the message from 2025 is that to follow the rules, or pay the huge price.
