Overloading crackdown will be year-round – Loke

The ‘war against overloaded commercial vehicles‘, or Ops Perang Lebih Muatan, is not a seasonal thing; it will be carried out year-round, transport minister Anthony Loke has said, according to a Bernama report.

“Last year, we launched large-scale operations against overloading, and they had a significant impact by demonstrating the government’s seriousness in addressing this issue. However, some parties assumed enforcement ended last December. So, I want to make it clear that enforcement activities are ongoing at all times and remain a core responsibility of the road transport department (JPJ),” he said yesterday.

169,965 heavy vehicles were inspected from October 14 to December 31, 2025 – 3,563 were found overloaded and 6,843 notices were issued to drivers and vehicle owners, along with 4,983 saman.

“If violations are detected, firm action will be taken. Do not assume enforcement has been halted or relaxed,” Loke said, adding that enforcement this year will also place strong emphasis on overall road safety, including drink-driving, street racing and bikers’ safety.
