Pakistan Railways to Launch Six New Trains for Sindh - Carr.pk

The Sindh and federal governments have approved a major rail-based suburban transport plan to revive Sindh’s railway network and improve intercity travel.

The decision was finalized during a meeting between Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Federal Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi. Both sides agreed to implement the project through close coordination.

The Sindh cabinet approved the Rs6.6 billion railway initiative in December. The plan covers an 858-kilometre rail network across six key corridors. It also includes funds to upgrade 100 manned railway crossings.

In the first phase, Pakistan Railways will launch six new passenger trains. Authorities plan to introduce six more trains in later phases.

Under the project, officials will rehabilitate tracks on six routes. These include Kotri–Dadu, Dadu–Larkana–Habib Kot, Hyderabad–Mirpurkhas–Marvi, Rohri–Jacobabad, Jacobabad–Kashmore Colony, and Hyderabad–Badin.

During the meeting, the chief minister directed the immediate release of funds. He confirmed that the Sindh government would finance the replacement of 100 railway crossings.

Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi assured full technical support for the project. He said Pakistan Railways would provide the required right of way. Both governments also agreed to finalize a 25-year partnership framework for long-term railway development in Sindh.
