Pakistan Supports Japanese Carmakers, Promises Faster Tax Refunds - Carr.pk

The government has renewed its outreach to Japanese investors in the Pakistani automotive sector.

According to the report by DAWN, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan told Japanese automobile manufacturers that Pakistan will address their concerns to deepen and sustain industrial cooperation.

He spoke at the Japan-Pakistan Business Seminar 2026 in Islamabad on February 10.

Key commitments announced

  • Clear pending tax refunds flagged by Japanese automakers
  • Remove export-related hurdles that affect parts and vehicle flows
  • Keep continuous dialogue with stakeholders and streamline approvals for long-term investment

Role of Toyota, Suzuki, and Honda in Pakistan

Haroon Akhtar said Japanese automakers have shaped Pakistan’s auto industry for decades.

He cited Toyota, Suzuki, and Honda for contributions across vehicle assembly, parts manufacturing, logistics, dealerships, and service networks.

He also referenced job creation, technology transfer, and support for local supply chains.

Who attended the seminar

The seminar brought together government officials, business leaders, universities, and representatives of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Pakistan, the Japan International Cooperation Agency, and the Japan External Trade Organisation.

Conclusion

Pakistan’s latest message to Japanese automakers signals a push to retain and expand foreign investment by fixing long-standing operational bottlenecks.

If promised steps on refunds, exports, and approvals translate into faster on-ground action, the move could support industrial activity, supply stability, and continued job creation linked to Japanese-led production.
