Govt Revises Imported Car Rules Under Gift & Transfer of Residence Schemes; Notification Issued - Carr.pk

The Government of Pakistan has revised the rules for imported vehicles under the gift and transfer of residence schemes, issuing the official notification S.R.O. 61 (1)/2026 in the Gazette of Pakistan – Extraordinary Part II. The amendments remove references to “personal baggage” and introduce new eligibility, safety, and transfer rules for overseas Pakistanis importing vehicles.

Under the revised policy, the “last three years” for eligibility to import or gift another car now spans 850 days from the previous import declaration. Vehicles imported under these schemes must comply with minimum safety and environmental standards, similar to commercial used vehicle imports.

Additionally, vehicles imported as gifts or under the transfer of residence scheme will remain non-transferable for one year. Transfers must also originate from the same country where the overseas Pakistani resides, ensuring tighter regulatory compliance.

Officials said the changes aim to enhance transparency, strengthen enforcement, and standardize safety and environmental measures for imported vehicles. The government emphasized that these amendments provide clarity for overseas Pakistanis while safeguarding the local automotive and regulatory framework.
