Why Peshawar Is Changing Rules for Private Taxi Services
The Peshawar administration has announced strict new regulations for private taxis in the city to reduce traffic congestion and improve passenger safety. Under the new policy, all private taxis must be officially registered and follow a uniform appearance.
According to officials, the Peshawar administration has made registration with the Excise Department mandatory for private taxis. Registered vehicles will be issued a standard color scheme, driver uniforms, and QR-code stickers for identification. Authorities warned that unregistered taxis will face fines and possible confiscation.
The Peshawar administration also ordered the immediate shutdown of more than 100 illegal transport services operating across the city. These include unauthorized rickshaws and speed stations. Contractors running such services could face arrest, officials said.
To improve traffic flow, unnecessary U-turns on major roads such as Charsadda Road and Kohat Road will be removed. Encroachments along busy routes will also be cleared. Some BRT stations causing congestion will be relocated to more open areas.

Joint enforcement teams involving district officials, traffic police, and transport authorities will begin operations against illegal rickshaws, Qingqis, and loaders, especially along the BRT corridor. In addition, restrictions have been imposed on heavy vehicles entering major city roads before 10:00pm to ensure smoother traffic movement.
